Kaycee Swierc (she/her) is a Tex-Mex director and producer based in New York City whose work investigates what happens when the systems shaping our lives begin to fracture. She is drawn to stories at the intersection of the personal and political, where questions of identity, power, belonging, and responsibility collide with larger social structures. Her work frequently centers women and historically marginalized voices navigating systems not designed for their success. She is particularly interested in stories that interrogate America, both the stories the country tells about itself and the people who have been asked to live inside those stories. Across her work, she returns to questions of who holds power, who gets included, what communities owe one another, and what people do when long-held assumptions about themselves and their world begin to unravel.

Her favorite question in a rehearsal room remains: “What if it’s fun?”

Her directing credits include Hurricane Diane, GLORIA, The Vagina Monologues, Half World, and Epiphany (Tampa Bay Theatre Festival, Best Play). Her associate and assistant directing work spans Broadway, national tours, new-work development, and leading regional theatres. Selected credits include Jagged Little Pill (Broadway and North American tour); Frozen, Dear Evan Hansen, and Ain’t Too Proud at The Muny through their Directing Internship; WILD at the American Repertory Theater; Much Ado About Nothing at American Players Theatre; and Noises Off at Pittsburgh Public Theater.

Kaycee previously served as Special Assistant to Artistic Director Diane Paulus at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University, where she assistant-directed WILD and contributed to productions including 1776 and Becoming a Man.

She holds an MFA in Directing from Carnegie Mellon University, where she was a John Wells Fellow, and a BFA in Acting from Texas State University. She is an Associate Member of SDC.
